Background
I live in the beautiful mountainous area of Alberta, Canada. I absolutely love exploring the outdoors with my fiancé. If there is a tree filled, rocky trail we can hike through, you can bet we’ll be on it. That, or snowboarding down the (slightly easier) runs of the Rocky Mountains. Snowboarding is a skill I am still working on. However, where my true passion lies is in art, especially when it involves nature, animals and a bit of surrealism thrown in. I remember, as a kid, I used to beg my dad constantly to draw me all kinds of cartoons so I could hang them on my wall. After the hundredth time he finally said “why don’t you try drawing it instead of me”. I think he was just tired of me nagging him, but at the time, I was inspired and ran with the idea. That, combined with the creative drawing books from my mom, made such a huge impact on where my art level is today. I’m so grateful for my parents for helping me find my passion. As I got older I discovered my passion for traveling. That’s also how I managed to meet my globe trotter fiancé. We worked and saved for three years for an incredible trip around the world for a year, which took us backpacking through the mountains of Peru, swimming in the warm rivers of Brazil, tasting authentic ramen in Japan, and even volunteering at a language exchange cafe in South Korea, where we also snuck in some video game time at their PC Cafes. All the while I never forgot how much I enjoyed working with that first author to create a fun and exciting book cover. I even managed to squeeze in quite a bit of drawing time during our long, long bus rides. We were fortunate to finish our trip just as the COVID 19 pandemic started and made it home safely. It has been such a hardship for so many and really reminds us to never let go of your goals and dreams, and not to wait until tomorrow, but instead start today. If you want something, go for it now, before the opportunity passes you by. Be smart, be as prepared as you can be, but don’t wait. Put one foot in front of the other because you never really know what’s around the corner. I am passionate about art, and I hope to one day make this my career and become a freelance artist. |
